Bodzin has peeed in his crate the last two nights. He may have been doind this more than that, but I assumed that he was not because he always takes a long pee when I let him out at 7am. However, he has been waking me up with one bark around 4 am on a pretty consistent basis, so this morning I let him bark... then I thought ... "What if he has to pee? I better go check". Well, I got there and his bedding was wet, but I took him outside anyways and he still had to pee.
Do you folks restrict water after a certain time of night? I have tried to allow him access to fresh water whenever, but I don't want to have to get up at 4 am every night to let him pee either?

we found NO water after 8:30-9pm as young puppies or they'd have to go during the night

also some dog's bladders take longer to mature ...Peanut from 9wks till almost 12 weeks old always had to go during the night even with taking water up by 8:30pm, we virtually had no sleep for 2 weeks hahhahaa

Beau the 1st week we had him had te pee during the night too
as he was adjusting to our schedules and home.
he was 15weeks old then...after the 1st week he was fine

all dogs now can hold it during the night and if they do cry during the night means a mushy poop from something they shouldn't have gotten into hahhahaa

Sam is 10 weeks and I generally remove his water around 7 at night. He's starting to sleep through the night but I'm still getting up once or twice a night to take him out for a wee. I suspect that when he's restless in his crate (even when he's asleep), he needs to go potty.

Maya didn't sleep consistantly through the night until about 5mos. Once she hit 5mos she would sleep through the night and then at about 5.5mos she had a two week period where she would wake me up. No she will sleep in to 8 or 9am (at least on the weekends)

Emily sleeps through the night (she is 4 months old now). I limit access to water after 9pm and I take her outside one last time at midnight which is when I go to bed. She will then be fine until 7:30 am

Well,
Thanks for the replies.... Bodzin is just over 6 months old now. He is also eating snow when he is outside I have found. I think it may be the snow because it didn't seem to happen until there was snow on the ground.
Tonight the water is gone by 7.
Hopefully he can hold it.

again

Last night we didn't allow water after 6:30. We let him out three times and saw him pee before we went to bed at 10:30. He still wet the bed and barked at 3:45. He did not pee the bed after we removed the wet padding, and waited until I let him out at 7am to go the next time.
Argh.. I am wondering if the bedding, even though I am washing it really well, is causing this.

You may find that Bozdin might try a little harder to stay dry if there wasn't any bedding in his crate at all. Angel only had a couple of pee accidents in her crate when she was little but it was when I had a towel in there for her to lay on. I took out the towel and she hasn't messed since. I also took up her water after she ate her dinner and let her out to potty between 9-10. I put the towels back in her crate when I knew that she could hold it...it didn't take long!

She is now 11 mos. and she actually moves the towels and blankets out of the way so that she can lay on her plastic tray! She also prefers the hardwood floors over the carpet to snooze. She wakes up around 6:20AM like clock work...I wish she'd sleep a little longer...we need to work on that!

I too would try removing bedding from the crate. When I first got Jonah, He would potty on the fleece blanket, then push it to the corner. Once I remove it, accidents stopped.
Ditto here too
NO bedding or blankets in crate...no accidents

Success

Last night Bodzin did not wet in his crate! I took out the bedding and also got up when he barked to take him out at 4am. Now we just have to work on this 4am stuff.
Thanks for the help!
