In certain lights and also after bathing, Miko's "black" coat seems to have dark brown high lights. I'll try to get a picture. I just noticed it the other day, and thought it was just from rolling in the dirt with big brother Jonah. But, she is fresh from the bath and I still see it. I'd take her out to get a picture, but she just got the bath because tonight is graduation from puppy class.
Any experience out there with black to brown? She's a little over 9mo now.

Probably the sun. Didn't think of that.

Graduation is next week....dad needs the dunce cap...can't count to 8! She did amazing with stay! I was soooo proud. Even when her classmate was tugging her ear, she stayed. The trainer said I should consider therapy dog with her. She did really good in the store with sit and greet. Still quit shy, but when told sit, she was fine!

Miko....what a good girl :D :D

Tanner is class clown, short attention span...wants to sleep between each new thing. but at home he is great..

I think it would be great to train Miko as a therapy dog...what command do you use to train her to greet. Tanner won't let anyone he doesn't know come near him :(

So far, we just us sit. then when she does, she doesn't mind being petted. It's still a work in progress, but it seems to make her more comfortable, especially since she's pleasing me, and she gets an award of "good" attention...plus a little treat for doing good!

Everyone wants to pet Tanner and feel his coat...but he pulls away..He is real good about sitting, but he sits behind me when there is someone he doesn't know. It's not like he hasn't been around a lot of people, but if they don't have a dog with them, he doesn't trust them.

And no way would he ever take a treat from them. I guess we will just keep trying in his class to build up his "people trust".

How does Jonah do..does he love everyone?

Jonah, how can I say this....over loves! His love of life, people, animals is boundless...and for the most part...uncontrollable. Without the gentle leader, I wouldn't even try. He still jumps on people even with it on. Oh to love life as much as he does is my goal!!

Cinnamon will greet people, but she won't take treats from strangers. Even the people she knows. Most of the time I just tell people she won't take treats from strangers and most of them are fine with that.

I had one lady try to force it on her and it really scared Cin. She was nervous the rest for the time we were in the store, always looking for the weird lady. I've never seen her like that, but after we left the store she was fine. We haven't taken her back to that store, so I'm not sure if she would remember that or not. It was the local petsmart, so I'm sure we'll be back there, just hadn't made it yet.

Now if Dave or I have something, she'll take it fine, but gentle. No taking off the fingers. And it's not like she's picky, it's just her.

Annie....the only people besides myself that I let give my dogs treats are my neighbor, and occasionally the mailman, but only with my ok. The treat for sit and greet comes from me. Miko, like Tanner would not take a treat from a stranger. It took her 3 classes to take one from the trainer!

Gene, that makes me feel better...it is not that I want him to take from strangers but I am just looking for a way to get him to not be so skittish. He is fine if I or Tim are talking to someone but the minute they put their hand out to Tanner, he darts behind me :(

Maybe use a treat to get him to sit and greet. I used little biscuits. We had a great experience in the store doing this. A little girl...around 10 or 11 was with her 3 year old brother. I asked if they wanted to pet Miko. I put her in a sit and the girl petted her, then she told her brother..."She's shy, put your palm up and pet her chest easily so you don't scare her." I was so impressed with her! I was going to ask her if she was going to be a trainer or work with animals, but her cell phone rang and off she went! Kids!!

Another member of the "over loves" club is Dakota! He hasn't met a person or a dog that he doesn't gush over! The groomer, the vet's techs, everybody loves Dakota and he loves them back! :D The problem is with greeting visitors--he is so excited to see them that it's difficult to restrain him from running up to them and jumping for joy! We are working on restraint  . . .
