hi! I recently got a labradoodle-well 3 months ago. :D He's 6 months old now, and he's an F1. I've read a lot of your posts and they've really helped me with him. I'm sure you guys get this question a lot, but I was wondering what you think he may look like when he's older/what his coat will be like. These pictures are from when he was around 14 weeks, i hope they show up! these were taken a little while after a bath.. and after he rolled in the mud!

thanks!

Welcome to the forum Sally and Rowen!!! What a handsome pup he is!!!
To me it looks like his coat might be a bit wirey like my Raleighs is...he used to have beautiful waves, but those are long gone....does Rowen shed? I love his color!!! :D

Welcomes and Woofs to Sally and Rowen - a very handsome boy!
Our Ebbe is an F1 who was coal black at 14 weeks with a wavy coat. At 8 months she has a coat of many colors ... chestnust brown muzzle, silver hairs peeking through her now rough coat, some beige and gray on her legs. It seems to change every day  But no shedding! :D
we call her our 'mood' dog.

thank you for the warm welcome!
Rowen sheds a little bit, I occasionally find puffs of hair around the house-
but the hair is also contributed by our vizsla, Baron.
Rowen has lost a bit of those curls on his legs and chest, but still has a bit
of the feathering on the back of his lower legs :) His shedding is pretty controlled by brushing him with the slicker brush ever day or so.
He tends to get a bit warm in the summer.. has anyone ever clipped their f1's hair? i saw some websites that advise against it, but was just curious since Rowen gets so hot.. but luckily he loves to swim which keeps him fairly cool! infact, the other day we took him down to the boat yard with us and while attempting to launch the boat he happily tried swimming around the boat and out to sea.. luckily he was on a leash! another question.. Rowen's about 30 pounds at 6 months (his dad was a miniature poodle), we were told he'd end up around 40-45 pounds.. but i'm not so sure.. his growing seems to have slowed down a lot. any opinions?

Hi Sally and Rowen!
Darling pup, that Rowen!
I suspect that he will have a typical F1 "Disney Dog" look that we all love so much. Many of our dogs have that look...so check out the F1 pictures in the photo gallery and you'll probably find some that look just like Rowan!
He does have a beautiful coloring!
I would guess, since he has a mini dad...he will be around 45-50 lbs....but if this was a first try at getting a smaller litter of pups and the mother was fairly large, it could turn out that Rowen would be bigger...it's sort of like waiting to open a gift...waiting and wondering is half the fun!
Enjoy!

I, too, have learned so much from everyone on this forum. What a nice group! Rowen looks in some ways similar to Bigsby to me, only maybe not quite so curly. Bigsby is an F1B, and his father also was a miniature poodle (red) like Rowen. His mother was an F1 blond. He seems to be getting redder and losing the blond as he gets older. He weighed 23 lbs. at 20 weeks and the vet thinks he will get to around 45. We'll see. That's part of the fun with these dogs - you don't really know what their coat will look like or what size they'll be until they get there!

wow! Rowen and Bigsby do look pretty similar (besides the curly factor)! I think Rowen was about 20 pounds at 4 months too. He actually gained 10 pounds while we were in Maine! It was quite a surprise to me.. Sadly Rowen's losing his little blond "chaps" on his legs and chest..they seem to be disappearing and becoming less curly. but that's alright! On a random note.. I'm really excited because Rowen's going to be graduating puppy kindergarten not this upcoming sunday, but next sunday! :D

Welcome, Sally and Rowen!!

Glad you found us! I have been so addicted to this forum; it has been such a great informative, funny place to visit!! I have learned a lot and it has helped with all the crazy things these doodles do!! They are the most wonderful dogs on the planet!!

Rowen is such a great looking guy! I agree with everyone, his coat will keep changing....He looks a little wavy~wiry to me....Coco was 6 months, nearly 7 months when I began to notice big changes in the length and curliness of her coat. She has a black undercoat in places, like on her belly!....which was bare early on.

Are you enjoying the "Doddle 500's" yet with Rowen? Surely so.....
We go through them twice a day! ZOOMING all over the place!

ah yes, the doodle 500s! after he completes his rounds he sleeps the majority of the day!

so, i've been thinking about getting rowen a summer clip but I have no clue what type would keep him cooler, he already has a fairly short coat being an f1, but he still gets pretty hot. any suggestions/pictures? :D

You can never go wrong with a puppy cut. I love that look...sort of about an inch all over, leaving the face and tail longer.
Be careful, since Rowen spends so much time outdoors...they CAN get sunburned! So, try not to clip him too short!

DH like to keep annabelle shorter , our longest clippers are 5/8inch - i'm thinking of getting extenders --

-Anyone use them?????

I want to keep her more about and inch or tad longer

I found a wonderful brush that Misty recommended - she has 2 of Annabelles brothers - it works great called LesPooch http://www.lespoochs.com/brush-green.asp

for a doodle you want the green one -you can get single or double - I got double and recommend it, they are $85.00 but she brushes out so easy - have her brushed in 10 minutes - with a comb it was 45 minutes at least and other brushes jus didnt work well .
you dont have to put pressure just runn it across their coat - amazing
