Does anyone have an above ground pool and have let your doodles (or other dogs) in? Our above ground pool is built into a deck. We don't have an actual ladder yet (last summer I would just jump in) and we need some way to get Dexter in and out of the pool. I don't know if a ramp would work (I think the weight would be too much for the deck).

Ok we have a 24ft round above ground poool surround by a deck.
i have a ladder goign down into the pool but we got max last oct and peanut this past fec

I have been told you aid the dog and stay in the pool with them so they don't panic at all and/or scratch the lining.

I also years ago taught my dog and brother in laws dogs how to climb ladders. I am thinking of doing the same with my 2 doodles to help them with the pool ladder.

I'd be interested in how you taught dogs to climb ladders. Our basement has such steep stairs, it's about the incline/decline of a ladder, and Darwin can't (or is to scared to try) to get down.
i don't think you do....Please NO one attack me for this and also remember i was about 24years old at the time

I put the ladder on the side of my house. we had a small one story cottage type of house with a flat roof. the dogs would whine while we were working on the roof doing our new addition.
I then sweet talked them and well they followed me up with my ex husband behind them. we encouraged them every step of theway
NOW this took about 7 or so tries till they completed the whole ladder in 2 days. they would go up a bit and we'd praise them, then have them go down. Finally they completed the whole ladder. Going down is scary for them.

NOW with a pool ladder do the same thing...try resting it against the house or shed or whatever since its not more than 5 or 6 ft. If that doesn't work use treats then OR hahhaha wait till spring and i'll let you know if theis works with Max and Peanut hahhahahaa
This way they got used to the ladder rungs.
