Wanted to put a couple new photos out of Murphy, I am amazed at how fast he has grown and how much his coat is changing. He is a great pup.

What a cutie! I have two chocolates and as we've had some sunny spring days, they've gotten gorgeous blond highlights all around their faces. It's only April....I wonder if they'll be creams by the end of summer! lol

I have also noticed lighter hair around his snout and paws. He's a hoot, always something new every day and it seems he grows daily
What a doll! Very nice coloring and coat...and he is sitting there being sooooo good! :D
Hi Jamie,

Murphy is such a handsome puppy! I love his little white patch on his chest. I have a 4 month old chocolate Doodle. Her snout seems to be a little lighter in color then the rest of her too. She enjoys sleeping under the coffe table with her head resting on the leg of the table just like in one of Murphy's pictures. :)

He looks so much like my little Fozzie! He was born Jan 11 2006. What a cutie. He even has the same waves on his back.

Which one is Fozzie? I looked at your gallery but wasn't sure which one was him. Isn't it fun watching them change daily!

Happy Birthday, Murphy!!

Since Murphy is a chocolate LD like my Jorja, have you noticed any stray white hairs on his upper back? Jorja is completely dark brown but I've been noticing these lonely white hairs that are only noticable when you really look hard especially in the sunlight. I'm just curious if this will change her coat color in the long run or something. Both her mom and dad are both all chocolate brown so I don't know where the light hair would come from.

Murphy is growing up fast! He's so darn adorable!

Happy Birthday Murphy!!

Marty, Jorja's coat has a common genetic trait that dilutes the coloring...Chase has a few white hairs too, but not many. I have seen other chocolate colored dogs with an almost greying to their coat.
It is much like the dogs that we own when they turn silver.

I think that the coloring comes from the Poodle genes. It could get more pronounced...or it might not...hard to say since neither parent have the pattern in their coat...but it could be a throwback from somewhere else in the genetic background.

Here is a link that explains the dilute gene: http://www.canine-genetics.com/pdlcolor.html

Marty, Well Murphy has that white spot on his chest, that was one thing I liked about him when we picked him out. But to answer your question Yes he has several white spots he has some on his lower lip like a "soul patch" and if you look at just the bottoms of his pads he has white hairs in the center...darndest thing. Aren't they just the funniest puppies!

Marty, Is Jorja a F1? she is a cutie, her coat is beautiful, how old is she now?
Marty, I have noticed quite a few white hairs in Lani's coat, especially where the new fur is coming in and the fur is a darker brown. Lani's dad is a cafe au lait standard poodle, I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Thank you, Jac. That's really interesting about the color genes. I guess I'll have to wait and see what she turns out to be. To pick my puppy the breeder emailed me pictures of four different little girls from the liter. I picked the one with the messy hair look. Now, Jorja looks like Alfalfa from the Little Raschals. Her hair kind of parts on her head and has some that sticks up. It's pretty wild. Throw in some highlights and wow she'll be styling!
